- Updated the look of the site to conform to my other websites.
|
- Went through all
of the external code modules from start to finish, renaming
all module-level and local variables according to standards...couple
of bugs fixed right away where global variables were being corrupted
by small routines supposedly using a local variable....Just
the forms code to go through now!
- GEDCOM Import is
now working again (minor problems with the AWK control).
- Got the Print parameters
window working (sort-of) as well as the Descendant Box Chart
preview window.
- Started looking
into the MDI window handling as Genesis threw up a couple of
crashes when working with several windows open (are you telling
me that you guys have actually been using this like this?).
|
- Family Add/Modify
appears to be working OK now. This really is better than that
'other' genealogy program - even with this limited functionality!
- Toolbar buttons
are now working again, with Notes, Biography, etc buttons staying
depressed while the forms are open.
- Options are now
loading and saving again, only this time using the Registry
(the code used was a hang-over from the Windows 3.x days of
using .INI files and didn't work reliably).
- Attributes are now
loading into the Add/Modify form using the new grid control.
Found that the new grid control allows the use of pictures as
well, so I may use it for other list-type displays).
- Found that the Child
list does not format the data into the columns as it once did.
This is due to the use of 16-bit windows functions. Will consider
replacing all lists that need data formatting into columns with
the new grid control.
- GEDCOM Export appears
to be working now
|
- Tried out most of
the functions and, surprise, surprise, some of them simply crashed!
- Spent a while orienting
myself as to the state of the code as I had left it the last
time I was actively developing it.
- All global variable
declarations amended to naming conventions.
- All database creation
code amended for DAO 3.5 standards and tested OK (it creates
databases that allow data to be stored and retrieved...I'm impressed,
it actually works!).
- Tried out the functions
again....less flaky and, yeah - if I do say so myself - it's
much better than that 'other' genealogy program...keep watching
this space.

Having been encouraged
by the recent on-line activities of the Public Records Office,
I wanted to get back into my family history again. Because I have
found that the 16-bit version of Genesis was extremely flakey
under Windows 98 (at least on the PCs that I have access to),
I decided to be a traitor to my own cause and try out another
well-known family-tree program.....Yeugh!! Oh my God! I can't
believe that I actually paid £20 for this!
I reached for the
Start Menu, loaded VB6 and opened the rather dusty Genesis source
files...it must be better than what I've just witnessed! So: I
resumed development of the 32-bit version today!
|
Relocated
the Genesis stuff to a new web-host. I may resume development of
Genesis soon. |
Added
a download form for users to fill in, so that I can track the audience
which Genesis is reaching. |
Finally
uploaded the full installation version of Genesis V0.826, along
with the run-time file VBRUN300.DLL |
If you have the original
installation diskettes for V0.826, please e-mail
me, as I would like to post the full installation version here
for downloading.
Work has begun on the
new version of Genesis. This will be a 32-bit-only version. See
next version page for details.

This
is the new home of the Genesis Home Page as of today. My CompuServe
account has now been terminated. CompuServe users still have access
to this site via CSI. |
